Unofficial HGV Driver Code

Ever wondered why some truck drivers flash their headlights at each other?

It's part of the Unofficial HGV Driver Code! When one HGV overtakes another, you may find the overtaken vehicle flashes it's headlights. This is to let the overtaking driver know (s)he has passed the vehicle and can pull back in.

This practise is not in the Highway Code but is generally practised by HGV drivers.

Truck drivers generally are courtious to one another though like car drivers, there are exceptions. Some drivers take major risks and put other road users in danger. Some will not ease off to allow quick and safe passing of other vehicles.
